First Grade News

May 7th- 11th

     We have another busy week this week. Tuesday will be the day we have our DIBELS assessment. Please make sure your school is at school on time. We will also have our writing assessment on Wednesday. We will also have another magazine collection this week. Your child may bring magazines in to our room or put them in the recycling bin behind the school. Just write me a note to let me know how many you put in. No cardboard please!

Please don’t forget about our Mother’s Day tea this Thursday, May 10th from 7:50-8:20.

In Language this week, we will read the story A Tiger Cub Grows Up. We will compare/contrast animal parents and their babies. Our vocabulary words are wild, newborn, and mature. In Spelling this week, we are working on List 31 List A- haul, cause, saw, claw, paw, dawn, cool, soon, air, enough   *** BONUS- strawberry *** SPELLING HOMEWORK- Choose 6 spelling words and write a sentence with each word. Students should write a variety of sentences.

In Math, we will time reviewing skills from our SAT 10 test. Students will work on skills in small groups.

In theme, we will discuss oceans. This week students will locate and identify the oceans on a map. We will also discuss the different temperatures of the oceans and the causes. We will also discuss the characteristics of the ocean environment.

Homework:  Take Home Readers    Math Sheet/Language Sheet

Spelling – 1. Write 6 sentences        2. Take a practice Spelling test.
