TCAP: CHALLENGE

April 23-27, 2012

It’s here!  It is the week we’ve prepared for all year long.  Our students have worked hard and are committed to the challenge.  I am so proud of their hard work and I thank all of you for motivating students to focus on doing their best.

We have  one test scheduled for each day.  Monday we will have our Language Arts test.  Tuesday we will have our Math test.  Wednesday’s test will be Science and Thursday, we will take the Social Studies test.  Each test has two parts.  We will have Part 1, take a break (snack time) and then take Part 2 of the test.  We should be finished with each test at about 11:00 each day.  Students will have special classes, lunch, and recess (our regular schedule) each day.

Be sure your children get plenty of rest, eat a well balanced breakfast and arrive at school by 7:50.  Testing will begin promptly at 8:15 each morning.  Any student that is not seated prior to this, will have to wait in the office until it is finished.

As you know, this is the first year that TCAP scores will be averaged into each student’s report card grades.  I explained to each student that a report card is just that.  A report on a card.  It is a record of correct answers.  I expect students to do their best each day in class, and so I can expect that they will do their best on these tests.  We will receive the grades and we will be proud of our scores because they will be a record of our best!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Valerie Horne

Our last week before TCAP testing

Parents of Mrs. Horne’s 5th grade students,

Please be sure to send back the notes about snacks and the special notes for me to give to your child during TCAP week.  Your children have worked so hard and I thank you for helping to keep them motivated.  We will continue to review and prepare them this week.

Have a great week,

Mrs. Valerie Horne

April in 5th Grade

Mrs. Horne’s 5th grade parents,

It is another great week for us at Castle Heights Elementary.

TCAP testing is scheduled for the week of April 23-30.  Students are working hard to prepare for this important day.  We still need test proctors for this week.  If you can come and help us, please call the school office to schedule times that work for you.

Let’s have a great week and thanks for your support.

Sincerely,

Ms. Valerie Horne

April already?

Parents of Mrs. Horne’s 5th grade students,

Can you believe that Spring Break has come and gone?  I trust you had an exciting time with your families.  We are now ready to buckle down and prepare for state testing and the last 9 weeks.  We aren’t finished yet!

A couple reminders:

Field Trip to Cumberland University – Tuesday, April 3.  Students need to wear comfortable shoes.  Please sign and return the permission forms sent home in Red Folders.

LSSD pre-registration forms – Please see the purple form in your student’s folder (sent home March 28) to be signed and returned to let us know of your intentions to return to Lebanon Special School District for the 2012-2013 school year.

This year, your child’s TCAP test score will count for 20% of your child’s final fifth grade average.  We are doing all we can to look at data and see where students have fallen behind or if they have misunderstandings of specific concepts.  We are working together toward remediation with these students over the next month so that all students will perform well on the tests that are upcoming in April.
