I am originally from McMinnville, TN. I received my elementary education degree at David Lipscomb College in Nashville. My first teaching experience was in McMinnville at Dibrell Elementary, a K-8 school. I worked there for seven years with mainly the third, fourth and sixth grade classes. After that, my family moved to Lebanon. I was able to teach at McClain, Highland Heights, Sam Houston and now Castle Heights. My husband and I live in Old Hickory. He is a self-employed CPA in Donelson. We have two sons, Alan and Michael. For recreation, I enjoy gardening, sewing, reading, and traveling. My position at Castle Heights incudes being an intervention teacher for students needing additional assistance with reading or math skills. Various strategies are taught throughout the year to assist the students with improving their methods of attacking unfamiliar words. For the most part, I work with a small group of students who are reading on a shared level of instruction. We focus on the strategies to use while reading independently, and other areas such as identifying the main idea, details, inference, comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, and reading with expression. This is a weekly focus of our guided reading lessons. By the end of the year, the students increase their levels of reading significantly.
Mission for the Class
Every student has a potential to learn when the greatest effort is given.
