Mrs. Merilyn’s News Letter

Dear Parents,

We only have three weeks left and the kids are counting down.  I have really enjoyed getting to know each of the students this school year.  We have a lot of fun activities for this week.

Monday:  Field Trip-  Walk to the Park (if you have not turned in your field trip form please do so by Monday.)

Tuesday: I will finish our exploring of space with a “space trip” in the classroom.  We will have fun with all kinds of fun space adventures.

Friday:  Mother’s Day Tea (There is an invitation in the folder)

The rest of the week the students will be doing some end of the year testing such as Dibbles and RL (these measure your child’s reading level) As well as Writing prompts.  Please review how to write a sentence with a capitol letter at the beginning and punctuation at the end.  Also, remind them to add detail to their story and illustrations.  Last, the students will be collecting magazines for a recycling drive.  This will fit in with studying Earth and the ways to help our planet.

In Reading/Writing we will be preparing the students for the testing.  I will also be introducing a new unit over Oceans.  This will be studied in both reading and Science.  The students will explore different types of ocean life and learn the different oceans.

In Math the students will be working on graphs, money, and two-digit addition/subtractions.  It is very important that your child if fluent in these by the time they start 2nd grade.  Some of the students will be working on multiplication and regrouping.

If you have any questions over this weeks activities please let me know.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Merilyn Edwards-Ater
