            Yearbooks went on sale today for $25.00.  Children are only allowed to purchase them if all lunch charges and library books are turned in.  If a child has lost a library book, the cost of the book must be paid prior to them purchasing a library book.

 

Below, is an email that I received from our office today regarding our field day.  

Castle Heights is needing volunteers for field day on Tuesday, May 22nd.  If you would like to help us out please call 444-2483 and let us know.  The first rotation will be from 9:00-10:30 (be here at 8:15) and the second rotation will be from 12:15-2:00.

Yearbooks go on sale tomorrow.  If your child has overdue lunch money or library books still out, he/she must have this taken care of before a yearbook can be purchased.

Fliers  went home today regarding Cross Country at Winfree Bryant.  If your child is interested in this activity, please complete the form.

Tomorrow night, May 8, at 6:00 P.M., is 6th grade parent orientation at Winfree Bryant.  A flier was also sent home regarding this.

Spelling p. 48 (1-20).  Use words in top box for 1-10 and the words in the bttom box for 11-20.

Block 1:

We listened to Chapter 3 of The Bad Beginning.  Children need to complete their response logs.

Block 2 and 3:  Students worked on and typed their expository essays.

Blocks 4 and 5–Classes did not meet.

Today, we went to Winfree Bryant to the Knowledge Bowl.  Castle Heights placed second in this event.  We are so proud of our participants and students.  The children did an excellent job not just participating but observing and supporting fellow classmates and schools.  CONGRATULATIONS!!!

On Tuesday, May 8, there is a 6th grade parent orientation at 6:00 at winfree Bryant.  A flyer will be coming home tomorrow regarding this.

Tomorrow is our spelling test over words on p. 222 since Friday, the children do not come to school–it is a teacher workday.

Tomorrow we will be going to Winfree Bryant for the 5th grade Knowledge Bowl and a tour of the school.  Please make sure you send in your child’s permission slip for this trip.  We are asking, if possible, for the children to wear their Castle Heights shirts that we wore for the Fun Run earlier in the year or something blue or white.

If you have not returned your take home folder.  Please sign the signature page and keep the papers in the back at home.

Block 1 Reading:  Chapter 2 Draw and color two pictures comparing and contrasting Justice Strauss’ home and Count Olaf’s.  Write a sentence under each about the feelings the children had when they saw both of these.  Write sentences with our three new vocabulary words from Chapter 2.

Important permission slip forms (2) are coming home for you to complete and fill out.  We are going to Winfree Bryant on Wednesday, May 2, for the 5th grade Knowledge Bowl against the other fifith grade classes at the other schools.  The second permission slip is for the Walk to the Don Fox Park, which is scheduled for Monday, May 7, 2012.  Both of these permission slips are due as soon as possible.  If we do not have the permission slips returned, your child will not be able to attend.

Take home folders went home today.  Please sign the parent page and keep all the papers at home except for the permission slips.

Reading:  Chapter 1 Series of Unfortunate Events:  The Bad Beginning:  We read chapter 1, wrote definitions and sentences for Chapter 1 vocabulary.

Homework:  Draw and color the main idea of Chapter 1.

Block 2:  Began expository essays; we watched a presentation.  Then, we created a circle map for the Grand Canyon.  Next, we were given an expository essay in which we read the essay and then created our idea of the author’s graphic organizer for the expository essay.

Homeowork:  None assigned

Block 3:  See block 2

Block 4:  See block 2

Block 5:  Same as block 2; however, they had the following assignment:  Create a circle map based on the child’s choice of expository essay.

Take home folders went home today.  Please sign the parent signature page and return the red folder as soon as possible.  Keep all graded papers in the back.

Mid-terms will be going home on Wednesday.

Today was the first day of TCAP testing.  The children worked very hard.  Please remind them to look over their tests each day–sometimes when we take the time to look over something, we find careless mistakes.

Tomorrow is the math portion of the tests.  Please remind your child to read the question(s); work the problem; eliminate possible answer choices.
